Gym Machines
The exercise industry has given birth to hundreds and
thousands of resistance machines. They
fill gyms around the world and their purposes are plenty, but HyperStrike would
like to point out that there are basically two classes of machines.
1. Functional Resistance Machines
2. Non-functional Resistance Machines
Functional Resistance
Machines typically train your body through neurological and muscular means
in order to improve your physical functions, as in athletics, work and daily
living activities. These machines tend
to train you in an integrative style by using many muscle groups at once, often
targeting the whole body or at least a large part of the body. These machines are appropriate for
individuals seeking improved fitness and appearance, as well as physical
performance and athletics.
Non-functional Resistance Machines typically train just your
muscles, purely for appearance while ignoring neurological conditioning for
athletics and other natural movement patterns. This class of machines usually target just single muscle groups. They are appropriate by the casual fitness
individuals who want to look good but are not concerned with improved physical
performance or athletics.
The availability of hundreds of machines makes it difficult
to classify all of them into these two groups, and often many fall somewhere
between both; in general, however, it is useful to keep in mind the definitions
above when you select resistance machines and whether or not they relate to
your goals.
